Update on the Dumbo Case

On December 26, 2017, Judge James M. Bentivegna summarily dismissed the NhRP’s petition for a writ of habeous corpus for the release and delivery of an elephant named Bealah. On June 5, 2018, responding to a the NhRP’s petition for rehearing, Judge Bentivegna reasserted what he sees as the “frivolousness” of their petition. On September 25, 2018, the NhRP filed an appeal to the Appellate Court of Connecticut. We await action by that court.
