It has been a while since the NonHuman Rights Project has done something newsworthy, but we can now report that NhRP has moved on from chimps to elephants in a lawsuit filed on November 11, 2017 seeking a common law writ of habeas corpus for an elephant named Beulah. The suit, filed in Connecticut Superior Court, Litchfield County, demands recognition of Beulah’s "legal personhood" and what the NhRP characterizes as the animal's "fundamental right to bodily liberty." We'll be following this as news develops.
